“Breaking ground on this park is the result of a great deal of work by community members who had a vision to improve our region and are making it happen,” said Sen. Fain (R-Auburn), who secured a $650,000 grant for the park in the state’s 2013 capital budget. “Providing opportunities for families to recreate is vitally important to this growing area. I cannot wait to see the incredible community asset this park will be for many years."
The community center is a from-ground-up project. Its heart will be a 3,500-square-foot multi-purpose room, offering enough space for 200-275 people and dividable into three rooms. Shared spaces between the buildings are to include a lobby, some outdoor gathering areas and a teaching and warming kitchen, which the project realizes by renovating and expanding the kitchen.
The Washington State Legislature wrapped up the 2013 session Saturday evening, by passing new spending plans for the next two-year budget cycle. The state's public education system was the primary focus, according to Sen. Joe Fain (R-Auburn), who was a leading advocate for increasing school funding.
