Volunteers came together to beautify the city on a sun-splashed Saturday.
The community-wide volunteer effort – Clean Sweep, a May tradition – focused on major cleanup and beautification efforts in downtown Auburn and other areas throughout the city.
State, city and community leaders joined volunteer groups to do light cleanup and maintenance; landscaping, weeding and planting, as well as other projects. Service clubs, social service agencies, faith-based groups, Scout troops, businesses and individuals were among the groups who rolled up their sleeves.
The Clean Sweep project kicked off at City Hall, with group registration and a pancake breakfast prepared by Kiwanis Club of Auburn. Volunteers then participated in a ceremonial Clean Sweep down the Main Street sidewalks, followed by the collective volunteer projects at various sites around Auburn.
